Oracle Install and Database Creation Guide for IBM ClearQuest

This blog has been produced to show how to install Oracle 12c then how to create and configure an Oracle database for use with IBM ClearQuest.

Note: This has been written assuming that the reader does not need to be guided through the default install process. 

1. Install 
You should download Oracle 12c from: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/oracle12c-windows-3633015.html

Unzip the zip file winx64_12201_database and selfextract the file by right clicking.

2.1 Oracle 
Now run the setup.exe to install Oracle

The Oracle Universal Installer Step 1 of 10 dialog comes up: 
Step 1 click next:

Step 2 select “Create and configure a databse” and click Next:

Step 3 Select “Desktop class” and click Next : 
Note: If this Oracle installation was to be used for a production system your DBA would most likely.
Select Server class option.

Step 4 select “Use Virtual Account” and click Next: 
Note: You DBA may use other existing accounts.

Step 5 Un-Check “Create a container database” and provide a pwd and confirmation of the PWD

Step 6 Oracle runs it’s Prerequisite check and reports any problems. Address any problem if found and click next:

Step 7 Oracle gives you a Summary screen of the selections that you made if all looks good click Install:

Step 8 Oracle starts the install and shows you it progress: 
Depending on several variables the install can take anywhere between +- 20 min. to an hour

Step 9  The installation is finished and you are provided with the URL to Oracle Enterprise Manager

3. Now that Oracle is installed the next steps are to create Oracle tablespaces, Oracle users 
and grant the proper roles to those users in preparation for using them with IBM ClearQuest. 
3.1 Login to Oracle Enterprise manager using:  https://localhost:5500/em/login

3.2 Select  Storage->Tablespaces

3.3 Then select  Actions->Create and create a tablespace called cqmaster using the create tablespace dialog box that will be used for the IBM ClearQuest master database:

Pressing Show SQL should show the following SQL: 

    
3.4 Create another tablespace called cqsampl for the IBM ClearQuest user database:

Pressing Show SQL should show the following SQL: 

    
3.5 Now it is time to create the Oracle users that will be used with IBM ClearQuest. 
Select Security->Users:

3.6 Then select Actions->Create User and create an Oracle user called cqmaster which will be user for the IBM ClearQuest master database. Associate the tablespace cqmaster created in step 3.3 above and grand connect and resources privileges to the user.

Pressing Show SQL should show the following SQL: 

    
3.7 Then select Actions->Create User and create an Oracle user called cqsampl which will be a user for the IBM ClearQuest sample database. Associate the tablespace cqsampl created in step 3.4 above and grand connect and resources privileges to the user.

4. Now that Oracle has been and installed and configured for use with IBM ClearQuest it is time to use the IBM ClearQuest Maintenance tool to create a IBM ClearQuest master schema repository and user database. 
Start the IBM ClearQuest Maintenance tool. 
Start->RationalClearQuest->Clearquest Maintenance Tool:

4.1 From the menu bar select Schema Repository->Create and fill in all of the Schema Repository Properties like this and click next:

4.2 Select the IBM ClearQuest Data code page like this and click next:

4.3 Select Create sample database and schema to use Defect Tracking and click next:

4.4 Fill in all of the User Database Properties for the sample IBM Clearquest database like this and click Finish:

4.5 IBM ClearQuest then creates the Oracle Tables and Indexes in Oracle and  shows you it progress:

4.6 When it is finished press the Done button and your screen will look like this:

5. You can now start using the IBM ClearQuest database  you created with the IBM ClearQuest 
client application. For example you can run the IBM ClearQuest Windows client and select  
the sample database that was created by login with user admin:
